The “Walter Winchell”
Posted on: 14th April 2009
We’ve named a breakfast flagel after Walter Winchell, the notorious gossip columnist. Warren, my father-in-law, came up with the idea one evening while we were sitting around the dinner table celebrating his writing and one of his speaking engagements. Walter Winchell had his eye next to the keyhole and he could see through to tell the juiciest stories. Eye in the key hole! Voila, EGG IN THE HOLE. The “Walter Winchell” at the Georgetown Bagelry is a mini-flagel sliced, heated on the grill, then the egg is cracked into the hole and once it’s fried, the whole thing is flipped over and grilled a tad longer on the other side. I’m telling you, it’s absolutely bagelicious, and almost as good as French Toast Bagels.
